Orion Diagnostica is now Aidian
Orion Diagnostica changes its name to Aidian and continues to fight against antimicrobial resistance
Antimicrobial resistance is a growing global health threat and more and more bacteria are developing resistance to antibiotics. According to ECDC, each year 33 000 people in Europe die to an antibiotic-resistant bacterial infection.
"Antibiotics are prescribed too lightly especially in primary care. For example, for respiratory infections as many as 50 % of the prescribed antibiotics are unnecessary," explains Aidian's CEO Juho Himberg.
Aidian, former Orion Diagnostica, has almost 50 years of experience in developing and manufacturing of reliable and fast diagnostic tests for primary care. The company name change is the final step in the carve-out process of Orion Corporation.
"We aid health globally by promoting efficient and fluent healthcare. Antimicrobial resistance is a global threat and with fast and rapid diagnostics you can reduce significantly the misguided and unnecessary consumption of antibiotics. For example, a rapid and reliable CRP test is an excellent tool to support correct treatment decisions, " continues Himberg.
Aidian, headquartered in Espoo, Finland, has a strong position in the Nordics, Germany, Central Europe and China. Our global footprint covers over 60 countries and our QuikRead go® flagship products are used globally with close to 50,000 placed instruments. “Aidian is a great example of Nordic medtech success in competitive international markets. Our strategic focus is on developing new innovative products and international growth in existing and new markets," Himberg concludes.
